Meghalaya exhilarating joy as it celebrates Durga Puja, after two years of covid restrictions

Shillong, the capital of Meghalaya, is jubilant as Durga Puja emotions are permeating the city, just like the rest of the country. There are 257 Community Durga Pujas and five Private Durga Puja pandals in the state, according to the Central Puja Committee (CPC).

The vexatious epidemic, which had restrained revelry and celebrations for the previous two years, had no hold on this year’s Durga Puja celebrations, which got under way with vigor on Sunday. The city’s vibe is increasingly joyful and upbeat after two years of limited celebrations because of COVID-19.
The triumph of good over evil, light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, and truth over deception are the fundamental aspects of Durga Puja. Everybody is excited to celebrate, and the city has been adorned to resemble a beautiful bride.

We celebrate Durga Puja not only as a religious ritual, but as a way of expressing our culture, heritage, social values, customs, and hospitality in a variety of spheres of life and living through this festival.

Durga Puja has never been limited to a single community or religion. It has been a joyful festival of prayers from all religions, singing, dancing, the euphoric pounding of traditional dhaaks (drums).

The traditional drum beaters from all the puja organizations gathered in Rilbong on the second day of the puja’s start to compete in the drum beat competition, which aimed to determine the puja committees’ champions.

Not just the state’s capital, but the entire state is festooned with decorations in honor of Durga Puja. The celebration of triumph over defeat was also enthusiastically embraced in Garo Hills. A few images…

The Central Puja Committee (CPC) held a drum-beat competition at Rilbong Ground in #Shillong. The strength of the goddess Durga was embodied by women who pounded drums.
