Meghalaya: NEHU Vice Chancellor Tested Covid-19 Positive; Attended Yoga Day Programme
Prof. Prabha Shankar Shukla, vice chancellor of North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), tested positive for Covid-19 on Thursday morning. At the moment, Prof. Shukla is an inpatient at Nazareth Hospital.
The vice chancellor’s condition was stable, according to a Nazareth Hospital official.
The Institution Yoga Committee and National Service Scheme (NSS) Cell of the university hosted the 8th International Day of Yoga 2022 programme on Tuesday, and Prof. Shukla was invited as the chief guest. Both James PK Sangma, the Health Minister, and Union Minister of State for Minority Affairs John Barla were present at the event.
The programme had also been attended by a sizable number of NSS volunteers, non-teaching staff, and students from several university departments. When word got out that Prof. Shukla had interacted with a lot of people throughout the programme, students expressed their concern.
According to the revised instructions announced in February by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, random testing has been discontinued, according to a health official who was contacted. He added that contact tracing was no longer allowed under the new regulations.
Earlier this month, 31 juvenile athletes tested Covid-19 positive between the ages of 11 and 15 who intended to participate in the third round of the selection trials for admission to the Sports Authority India (SAI) training facility on the NEHU campus.
