Meghalaya: Tornadoes Team Reaches Shillong; Team to Pay Homage at War Memorial
The Army Service Corps Motorcycling Display Team “Tornadoes” arrived in Shillong, Meghalaya today as part of their 2600 km motorcycle journey through the North Eastern region. The group of fifteen motorcyclists set out on their adventure on October 1 from Tezpur, Assam, and will complete their 2600 km (17 day) journey at the Gajraj War Memorial in Tezpur.
On October 9, the team will pay respects at the War Memorial in Shillong before being signalled off by Lt Gen KC Panchanathan, GOC, 101 Area. The squad is led by Major Ramya Venkat and Captain AS Grewal. The Army Service Corps will honour its rich history and pay homage to the valiant Soldiers and Martyrs who served the country on December 8, 2022, when it holds its 11th Reunion and 262nd Corps Day.
In the North Eastern States of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, and Nagaland, the riders will honour the martyrs at various war memorials. Tawang, Tenga Valley, Bomdila, Sela Pass, Tawang’s forward posts, Kalaktang, and Guwahati were all visited by the expedition that left Tezpur.
“Tornadoes” have an astonishing 32 World Records, and the number keeps rising. 39 Riders, including two officers, two junior commissioned officers, and 35 other ranks, make up the unit, which is based at Bangalore’s ASC Centre (South).
