Mizoram: Over Rs.20 crores of drugs retrieved by joint operation of Assam Rifles and Anti-Narcotics Department

Drugs worth more than Rs 20 crores were found in Mizoram, marking a huge victory in the North East's battle against drugs. A team from the Assam Rifles and the Anti-Narcotics Department of the Mizoram Police on Tuesday conducted a joint operation at the outskirts of Sialsuk village in Mizoram's Aizawl district based on specific intelligence. The security services received information about a possible attempt to smuggle drugs.

"Based on the intelligence obtained, a Mobile Vehicle Check Post (MVCP) was activated by combined team of Aizawl Battalion and Special Narcotics Police Station, Aizawl at Sialsuk, on 8 Nov 2022," stated a statement from the Assam Rifles. It said, "At about 4 o'clock in the afternoon, the team saw the suspicious vehicle moving. The car was halted, and a complete spot check was done." Up to 70,000 methamphetamine tablets weighing 6.37 kg were found during the investigation. Furthermore, during the same investigation, 342 grammes of heroin that had been smuggled within 25 soap cases were also found.

The two individuals detained have been named as Lalhim Puiya and Changchunga, both of whom are citizens of Mizoram's Lawngtlai District. The whole market value of the seizure, if taken into account, will be close to 20 crores of rupees. A four-wheeler was stopped, according to Mizoram Police, based on earlier knowledge. When the car was searched, the illegal narcotics were discovered in a bag. Two people have been taken into custody by a joint team of the Assam Rifles and the Mizoram Police's Anti-Narcotics Department for allegedly smuggling illegal goods. The car's driver was one of those detained.
