In a recent Lok Sabha session, Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari stated that there should be no toll plaza within 60 kilometres of the national highway. The Union Minister also stated that steps will be done to implement the initiative, and that in the next three months, there will be no NH toll booths within 60 kilometres.
Gadkari announced on his official Twitter account that in the next three months, all toll plazas within 60 kilometres of each other on national highways will be closed. During a questioning session in the Lok Sabha, the minister made the remark while responding to demands from the ground regarding his ministry.
The road and highways minister also spoke about infrastructure development in Jammu and Kashmir during the Lok Sabha session on Wednesday. At eight degrees Celsius, he claimed, about a thousand people are working on the Zojila tunnel project. Gadkari further stated that projects worth 7,000 rupees are now being implemented in Jammu and Kashmir.
He also stated that the government will bring out a new policy that will see toll plazas throughout the country replaced by a GPS-based tracking toll system. It indicates that tolls will be collected using GPS. The money will be obtained using GPS imaging (on vehicles)
