Following a record-breaking testing frenzy earlier this month, North Korea launched one ballistic missile on Wednesday, according to Seoul's military. Seoul's spy service had earlier warned that Kim Jong Un might perform a long-anticipated nuclear test at the time that the United States was counting ballots in the House and Senate midterm elections.

The Joint Chiefs of Staff in Seoul reported that North Korea had launched an unidentified ballistic missile toward the East Sea, also known as the Sea of Japan. The military withheld any additional information. Japan's government tweeted that Pyongyang "had fired a suspected ballistic missile," confirming the launch.

North Korea staged a series of launches earlier this month, including an intercontinental ballistic missile that Seoul claimed appeared to have failed.
Additionally, Pyongyang launched a short-range ballistic missile that landed close to the South's territorial seas after crossing the de facto maritime border.
