Over 100 cases of tomato flu were reported in Assam in one month

The health department has been alerted by the more than 100 cases of hand, foot, and mouth illness, often known as tomato flu, that have been reported in the state in the previous month. According to a top Assam National Health Mission (NHM) official, Dibrugarh reported the highest number of cases, the majority of which were from two schools.

The number of state-wide confirmed cases has not yet been officially tallied by the health department. Even while it has not yet been determined whether the illness is life-threatening, medical professionals caution that if tomato flu spreads further, school attendance may once again be affected, even after a significant recovery from COVID-19. They said that there is a very slim chance that people will catch the illness.

Despite the fact that a number of viruses can cause the illness, the health department’s sources said that “Coxsackie” was to blame for its development in regions like Assam. Unwashed hands, contaminated surfaces, and even the air can spread coxsackie from one person to another.
