The Border Security Force (BSF) has been ordered by Home Minister Amit Shah to oversee an inter-agency force that will attempt to stop drones carrying explosives and weapons across the 182 km long international border in Jammu from Pakistan.
Home Minister Amit Shah was informed of the increasing drone activity across the border during the security review meeting on Wednesday in Srinagar, which was attended by senior security and intelligence officials. While the BSF, which guards the international border with Pakistan in the Jammu sector, claims that it has been successful in thwarting drones from Pakistan that were carrying weapons, ammo, and explosives, the state police and the intelligence services disagree with this conclusion.
Leading JKP officials and security organisations claim that the drones also dump packets of Afghan heroin for use in funding extremist operations in the Valley. Lashkar-e-Toiba, which has camps spread out throughout the IB in the Shakargarh Bulge area and has its headquarters in Pakistan, is believed to be the organisation responsible for the transit of guns, explosives, and drugs. LeT is currently the most active Pakistani group in the Valley, with Jaish-e-Mohammed strategically taking a backseat while the leadership of Bahawalpur is under pressure from the Pakistani deep state.
The increase in drone activity and terrorist attacks in Jammu and Kashmir demonstrate Pakistan’s full intention to keep the Valley on fire by using violence and the murder of innocent people. Although Indian Army officers stationed along the Line of Control assert that there is scarcely any drone activity north of Pir Panjal, intelligence reports indicate the exact opposite, and the Home Minister has taken note of this.
