The Union Ministries of Road, Transport and Highways, Petroleum and Natural Gas, and Railways, along with the Assam government, virtually inaugurated and laid the cornerstones for a number of projects on Friday. This was done by President Droupadi Murmu.
Three thousand model Anganwadi centres, 100 model secondary schools in Assam’s tea garden regions, two motorway projects at Moinarbond, Silchar, and a contemporary cargo-coaching terminal at Aghtori, Guwahati are among the projects.
Additionally, she signalled the departure of a train from Guwahati to Lumding Pass and on to Shokhuvi (Nagaland) and Mandipathar (Meghalaya).
According to the President, the effective implementation of these plans would boost the economy throughout the North Eastern area, provide new prospects for employment and enterprise, and expand transportation infrastructure.
“Infrastructure is the cornerstone of any state’s development. India’s “Act East Policy” is focused on the North Eastern area. The connectivity and infrastructure in this area are receiving special attention from the central government. The growth of Assam has the potential to propel the entire North Eastern area forward, she continued.The President also noted the abundance of natural resources in the region of the North East. “Assam contributes 13% of India’s total crude oil production, and the North East produces 15% of India’s total natural gas production. The brand-new Moinarband depot, which was launched today, will assist in supplying all of the Barak Valley’s petroleum product needs as well as those of Tripura, Manipur, and Mizoram.She said that the Assam-specific road and rail connectivity in all of the North Eastern states is receiving special attention from the federal government. Along with improving trade and transportation in the area, the numerous road and rail improvements “will expand tourism potential.”
