Liquor Raids In Delhi, Punjab, And Hyderabad
In order to further its investigation into possible money laundering violations in the now-scrapped Delhi liquor policy, the Enforcement Directorate today conducted new searches at 35 locations in Delhi, Punjab, and Hyderabad.
In these states, searches are being done at locations connected to distributors, retailers, and supply chain networks for alcoholic beverages.
Early in the morning, agency teams could be spotted departing the Delhi headquarters in search of the destinations for the raids.
Delhi’s Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal, criticised the federal government and called the raids “dirty politics.”
“Over 300 CBI/ED personnel have been conducting over 500 searches over the past three months, all in an effort to gather evidence against Manish Sisodia. Nothing to be found. the fact that nothing was done “In Hindi, Mr. Kejriwal tweeted.
“Many cops’ time is being squandered because of their unethical politics. How will such a nation develop?” Added he. The money laundering case involving the excise policy, which has become the newest cause of contention between the BJP and the ruling AAP, is the result of a CBI FIR in which Manish Sisodia, the deputy chief minister of Delhi, and other bureaucrats have been charged. The CBI is looking into whether the policy helped the liquor cartels.
The approach that permitted businesses to give significant discounts to get customers in is allegedly very corrupt, according to the BJP. The AAP, on the other hand, asserts that their strategy was intended to combat corruption and charges the BJP with exploiting federal institutions for political ends.
Sameer Mahendru, a businessman in the alcohol industry, was detained last week by the investigation team after they carried out numerous rounds of raids. His arrest comes a day after the CBI detained Vijay Nair, the AAP’s communications director and a close assistant to Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia.
Following a CBI investigation into its execution that was suggested by Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena, the Arvind Kejriwal administration repealed the Delhi Excise Policy, which had been in effect since November 17 of last year. Mr. Saxena claimed that the policy was put in place “singly” to assist private liquor barons by inflicting significant losses on the exchequer.Eleven excise officials were also suspended by the Lieutenant Governor due to the incident.
