Ashok Gehlot is Chief Minister of Rajasthan, he held this position from December 1998 to 2003, from 2008 to 2013, and again from 17 December 2018 to the next 2 years, the 2nd 5 years term in a row.
He was born on 3rd of May 1951 at Jodhpur to magician Babu Laxman Singh Gehlot. He is a science and law graduate, he also holds an MA degree in economics.
In his early days he was actively engaged in social political work even as a student because he was influenced by the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi.
He first contested in 1977 for Sardarpura constituency of Rajasthan Legislative Assembly and which he has to sell his motorbike for his election however, unfortunately lost by a margin of 4426 votes to his closest opponent Madhav Singh of the Janata Party. In 1980 he won the Lok Sabah election from Jodhpur by a margin of 52,519 votes. That is how his series of involvement in political begins and it is till to this day.
He recently supported Dalit activists and MLA Jignesh Mevani during his biased arrest by Assam police over and over again.
