Colonel Santosh Babu of the 16 Bihar Regiment, who was killed in a fight with Chinese troops in the Galwan valley in eastern Ladakh, was posthumously awarded the Mahavir Chakra today.
Colonel Santosh Babu, a hero of the Galwan valley fight, was awarded the Mahavir Chakra (posthumously) by President Ram Nath Kovind during an investiture ceremony on Tuesday. The President presented the award to the late Colonel’s mother and wife.
During Operation Snow Leopard, Santosh Babu was awarded the heroism medal for repelling a Chinese Army onslaught while erecting an observation post in the face of the enemy in the Galwan valley in the Ladakh region.
