The announcement on Thursday that star pacer Jasprit Bumrah would likely miss the T20 World Cup due to back discomfort dealt a serious blow to India. Bumrah missed Wednesday’s opening Twenty20 match against South Africa. On Thursday, he took a flight to Bangalore for NCA.
Bumrah reported back soreness during India’s practice session on Tuesday, the Indian board said in a statement prior to the T20 match.
As India practiced on Tuesday, Jasprit Bumrah reported having back trouble. He was examined by the BCCI Medical Team. He will not play in the opening T20I, the BCCI stated in their statement.
The BCCI is consulting with its medical team and the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru about the future of their pacers. It is unclear whether Bumrah will require surgery.
Bumrah missed Asia Cup due to his back injury and was declared fit for three T20 series against Australia at home. The Indian pacer was out of international cricket since July this year.
The senior national selection committee will have to choose between Mohammad Shami and Deepak Chahar, who have been added as standby players for the T20 World Cup, which will be played in Australia next month, if Bumrah is unavailable.
