Tesla CEO Elon Musk criticizes Twitter’s legal action against India

In his response to the complaint Twitter filed in the Karnataka High Court, Elon Musk referred to the Indian government. When outlining his justifications for pulling out of the Twitter deal, Musk referenced India. According to the Tesla CEO, Twitter filed a “risky lawsuit” against the Indian government.

Elon Musk made a proposal to acquire Twitter in April 2022, offering USD 54.20 per share and promising to relax the company’s content policing policies and eliminate false accounts. However, since that time, the world’s richest man and the social media behemoth have been embroiled in a legal dispute over Musk’s alleged desire to withdraw from the transaction because Musk claimed that Twitter had broken several acquisition terms. In the midst of the claims and counterclaims, Twitter responded on Thursday in Delaware Chancery Court, attempting to refute Elon Musk’s allegations and outlining how Twitter had fallen short of the acquisition agreement.

On June 5, the social media behemoth Twitter filed a petition with the Karnataka High Court to challenge the Government of India’s orders to remove certain content and handles from its platform due to legal infractions. In its court submission, Twitter criticised the GoI personnel for abusing their positions of authority.

In its defence, Twitter said that a few of the removal orders did not follow the IT Act’s procedural procedures. It said that removing such materials would amount to a violation of free speech because some of the orders were related to the material posted by the official handles of political parties.
