Toronto Maple Leafs’ star Mitch Marner was carjacked at gunpoint in a movie theater parking lot on Monday night, a report said.
The incident took place when a 25-year-old right-winger was going to see a movie with his friend when three armed suspects stole his black Range Rover at the Cineplex theater on The Queensway in Toronto. The suspects were unfamiliar with the owner of the vehicle.
According to the police, the suspects were approached wearing masks on them and demanded his vehicle which Mitch has to agree with in fear. Marner was left shaken up over the scary encounter but was not physically injured.
Two of the suspects were armed with handguns and the other had a knife, police said. The motive for stealing the vehicle is to sell out of the country. No arrests were immediately reported.
Toronto Mayor John Tory said in interview with Sun, “My initial reaction is how dare someone do that to anyone in our city. Violence against any resident is unacceptable and I know Toronto Police work incredibly hard to bring those responsible to justice.”
