In a shocking event in Panisagar, Tripura, a woman was inhumanly tormented by her in-laws for giving birth to a baby girl. The episode has once again demonstrated that a segment of society is still preoccupied with gender discrimination in the manner of the Middle Ages.
It is quite disappointing to learn that gender inequality still exists in today’s era, when a girl child is not a social setback. In any field, a girl is no longer confined.
According to local sources, Rubi Begum (19), the woman, managed to endure her in-laws’ torture. Rubi was taken to Kailashahar nursing home in Unakoti district by her father-in-law when she became pregnant. Rubi then gave birth to a daughter, which her in-laws were not happy about. Rubi and her baby were not allowed to return to their home.
However, instead of welcoming Rubi and her child, Imran, her husband demanded an e-rickshaw from her. Rubi objected and refused to help Imran in any way.
Imran and her family were enraged by her refusal and assaulted her.
The family quarrel over the girl child, on the other hand, was resolved following intervention.
