The 10-central trade unions’ two-day nationwide walkout against the central government’s policies and in support of the 12-point demands impacted banking, postal, telecommunication, insurance, and several manufacturing sectors in the northeastern area along with the rest of the country.
In support of their 12-point charter of demands, striking employees and workers have decided to observe a strike on Monday and Tuesday in favor of scrapping the labour codes, no privatisation of government sector in any form, scrapping the National Monetisation Pipeline, and increased wages under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act.
As a result of the nationwide strike against the government’s policies, the joint forum of central trade unions said on Monday that a bandh-like situation prevailed in at least eight states. Today marks the start of the two-day strike. “There are bandh-like conditions in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Puducherry, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Odisha, Assam, Haryana and Jharkhand,” the forum said in a statement. In many industrial areas across Goa, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Punjab, Bihar, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh, agitations took place, the forum reported. –PTI
Meanwhile, the Kerala High Court ordered the state government to issue an order prohibiting the participation of state employees in the two-day nationwide strike/Bharat Bandh. Furthermore, the court finds that participation in the strike by state government employees is illegal.
