Ukrainian officials said on Saturday that Russia launched nighttime attacks on several Ukrainian cities. Ukraine and Moscow blamed each other for the deaths of dozens of Ukrainian prisoners of war in a separatist-controlled area of the country’s east. The International Red Cross asked to visit the prison to make sure the wounded had proper treatment.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced, that the United Nations and the International Committee of the Red Cross have a duty to react after the shelling of a prison complex in Donetsk province killed the POWs.
“It was a deliberate Russian war crime, a deliberate mass murder of Ukrainian prisoners of war,” Zelenskyy said in a video address late Friday. “There should be a clear legal recognition of Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism.”

The attack has killed 53 Ukrainian POWs and wounded another 75 said the separatist authorities and Russian Officials. On Saturday, a list of 48 Ukrainian fighters, their ages ranging from 20 to 62 has been issued, who died in the attack by Russia’s Defense Ministry.
Ukraine appeals to the UN and the International Committee of the Red Cross as guarantors of the life and health of Ukrainian prisoners of war and demands from them an immediate response to the terrorist act committed by Russia.

By responding to the issue the Red Cross said, “Our priority right now is making sure that the wounded receive lifesaving treatment and that the bodies of those who lost their lives are dealt with in a dignified manner.” They even show support for Ukraine by strongly condemning the attack.
