Today Ukraine celebrated National Flag Day and tomorrow is Ukraine’s Restoration of Independence Day. In the week leading up to Ukraine’s Independence Day, the government declare that there will be no celebrations in Kyiv, only a heightened alert for Russian attacks on a symbolic date. On September 4, 1991, after the proclamation of Ukraine’s independence, the national blue-yellow flag was raised over the “Verkhovna Rada” of Ukraine.
For those abroad and in safe countries, there are still ways to honor Ukraine, its history, culture, and the ongoing fight for freedom. The Day of the National Flag in Ukraine is celebrated on August 23 each year. The flag is one of the national symbols of the country.
Foreign, Commonwealth & Development of the UK government have extended their support to Ukraine and wrote, “The UK stands in solidarity with the Ukrainian people as they continue to defend their country and independence.”
