Unemployment has led some young people to take up arms in Meghalaya: Conrad Sangma

Conrad K Sangma, the state’s chief minister, stated on Thursday that unemployment has led to some young people in Meghalaya taking up arms. Militancy, he added, was less of a problem and more of a result of socioeconomic concerns. This declaration comes in the wake of the founding of the “Lawei Ba phyrnai” terror group, which is allegedly led by “educated yet unemployed” state youths.

His words have gained weight as members of a new group known as Lawei ba Phyrnai stated they turned to terrorism as a result of unemployment.

Governments all across the world, according to Sangma, are looking into solutions to address the unemployment problem. According to him, the Meghalaya government has been focusing on numerous entrepreneurship-related programs in order to boost self-employment. “We have come up with numerous programs on mission mode for creating jobs for the youths,” the CM stated, referring to the food processing, tourism, and small-scale industries.

He stated that the government has made efforts to make the youth employed.

The chief minister stated that producing jobs is the state government’s top goal, and that the administration has already launched a number of entrepreneurial programs aimed at providing work possibilities.
