Congress, Left parties form pre-poll alliance in Manipur amid Assembly Election 2022.
A pre-poll alliance dubbed Manipur Progressive Secular Alliance (MPSA) was created in Manipur for the February-March Assembly election by six non-BJP parties – the Congress, CPI, CPI(M), Forward Block, RSP, and JD(S). At a news conference conducted jointly by the six political parties at the Congress Bhawan, the alliance was proclaimed. The meeting was attended by Jairam Ramesh, the AICC election observer in charge of Manipur, as well as former state chief minister Okram Ibobi Singh and Moirangthem Nara Singh, a representative of the Left parties.
Manipur’s 60-member Assembly will be elected in two phases, on February 27 and March 3. On March 10, the votes will be counted.
If elected to power in Manipur, the MPSA leaders have pledged to implement an 18-point agenda. The leaders’ agenda includes preserving Manipur’s territorial integrity and historical boundaries, enacting right to free healthcare laws to benefit the people of Manipur, providing unemployment benefits to the state’s youths, maintaining communal harmony in the state, and delivering economic justice by ensuring livelihood income to every family in Manipur, according to the leaders
