Violence Continues in Bangladesh on Hindu Temples; ISKCON Temple Attacked

In a fresh and horrible occurrence in Bangladesh, a crowd protesting the alleged destruction of the Quran at a pandal during Durga Puja festivities stormed Hindu buildings in Bangladesh’s Noakhali district on Friday, killing at least one person and injuring 17 others. As the country’s protests entered their third day, an Iskcon temple was also vandalized.

ISKCON authorities said the temple was destroyed and its devotees were mercilessly attacked by a mob, they also shared the picture on social media.

The crowd allegedly vandalized Hindu shops and homes during a rally in Noakhali’s Begumganj Upazila, according to Dhaka Times, citing Superintendent of Police (Circle Begumganj) Md Shah Imran.

Separately, Iskcon, a Hindu religious organization, claimed the crowd stormed its temple in Noakhali and its worshipers.

According to the SP, 17 people were hurt in the attacks in Noakhali, including the officer-in-charge of Begumganj police station, Kamruzzaman Sikder.

Thousands of protestors went to the streets in Bangladesh’s two largest cities on Friday, prompting police to use tear gas and rubber bullets, according to officials.

Several individuals were hurt as police used batons and tear gas to disperse a throng that was attempting to break through a police barricade, according to Sajjad Hossain, a deputy commissioner Meanwhile, in Chittagong, police shot 50 blank rounds to disperse hundreds of Muslim demonstrators who hurled missiles at officers guarding a makeshift temple, according to local police spokesman Bijoy Basak.

At least five cops were hurt, and three demonstrators were detained, according to Sazzadur Rahman, Dhaka’s deputy police commissioner.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has stated that her government will bring justice to the Comilla district after rioters attacked Durga puja pandals on October 13th. The protest immediately erupted into Bangladesh’s worst communal violence in recent history, putting a damper on Durga puja’s enthusiasm. In a nationwide sweep, at least four people were killed by police shootings, and many more were imprisoned.
