At a weightlifting tournament in Virginia, Tamara Walcott from Maryland, USA, recently broke the Guinness World Records by lifting a total of 1,620.4 pounds (735 kg).
At the 2022 World Raw Powerlifting Federation American Pro in Virginia’s Manassas, Walcott reportedly broke the record for the biggest total lift for bench/squat and press (female).
She began training weights four years ago solely to lose weight and maintain her fitness, the weightlifter recalled. According to Tamara, she had to start taking care of herself because she wanted to be there for her children when she gazed into their eyes.
Walcott put 272.5 kg (600.7 lb) on the bar during her attempt to break the record, which is a mark for her greatest performance in a competition. She also had to learn to get over her phobia of benching, which was another challenge, in addition to upping the weight.
Tamara hopes that her success in powerlifting would encourage other people to take up the sport. You have the powerlifting community and myself with open arms, so we can be whoever we want to be, she said.
