‘Will cut off your tongue’:Eshwarappa receives threat letter over ‘Muslim Goonda’ Tipu Sultan remark
A startling threat letter was sent to Karnataka BJP MLA KS Eshwarappa after he made comments regarding Tipu Sultan in which he called the Mughal emperor a “Muslim Goonda.” When the letter was delivered to Eshwarappa’s home, he lodged a complaint with the police.
KS Eshwarappa received a letter threatening him, stating that if he continued to refer to Tipu Sultan as “Muslim Goonda,” his tongue would be cut off. Only a few days prior, a contentious argument broke out in Karnataka over billboards for the state’s Independence Day that portrayed Tipu Sultan and the Hindutva leader V D Savarkar.
Eshwarappa claimed that he has never referred to all Muslims as “Goondas” and that he is unafraid of threats of this nature. Senior BJP leader KS Eshwarappa had earlier on Tuesday accused minority of inciting racial conflict in Shivamogga.
“I want to remind the elders of the Muslim community, I’m not claiming all Muslims are goondas,” the BJP MLA had added. I want to urge the Muslim elders who have worked for peace in the past to give advice to the young people who are engaging in goondaism. If they don’t, the government will take action, and they should be prepared to face it.
