Woman hits sandal at ex-Bengal minister Partha Chatterjee; says ‘he stole money from poor people’

Partha Chatterjee, an ex-minister of Bengal who is being held by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with the multi-billion dollar school recruitment scam, was hit with a sandal on Monday by a woman. The incident happened as Chatterjee was being transported from a hospital to the ED office.

The woman claimed, when speaking to reporters, that the former minister stole money from helpless people, adding that she wished the sandal had landed on his head.

Arpita Mukherjee, a close associate of suspended Trinamool leader Partha Chatterjee who has also been detained by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with its investigation into a school recruitment scam, claimed that she was unaware of the trafficking of crores of rupees into her homes by the agency. From her two flats in Belghoria and south-west Kolkata, Enforcement Directorate agents have retrieved jewellery and about 50 crore rupees in cash.

Mr. Chatterjee and Ms. Mukherjee were both transported to ESI Joka, in the city’s southern outskirts, for a medical examination, during the day.
