The youngest organ donor in the history of AIIMS, New Delhi, is a 6-year-old girl who was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Noida.
Roli Prajapati’s parents agreed to give their child’s organs to save the lives of five other people.
After being shot in the head, Roli was taken to the hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries. She lapsed into a coma before the medical staff at AIIMS declared her brain dead.
Dr. Deepak Gupta, a senior AIIMS neurosurgeon, told ANI, “On April 27, Roli, a six-and-a-half-year-old girl, arrived at the hospital. A bullet found lodged in her brain from a gunshot wound. The brain was completely destroyed. She was practically brain dead when she got at the hospital. As a result, we spoke with the family members.”
“We determined that she was dying from brain death. Our team of doctors then met down with the parents and discussed organ donation. We counseled the parents and obtained their consent to donate organs in order to save the lives of other children “explained the neurosurgeon
Roli’s parents were praised by an AIIMS doctor for donating her organs and saving five lives. Her liver, kidneys, both corneas, and heart valve are up for donation.
Roli becomes the youngest organ donor in the history of AIIMS Delhi with this donation.
Roli’s mother, Poonam Devi, expressed her grief over her daughter’s departure, but noted that she had saved the lives of others.
