90% jump in Covid cases in India in a day, brings 2,183 new infections

According to data from India’s health ministry, the country saw a roughly 90 percent increase in daily Covid cases from Sunday to today, with 2,183 new infections. This is the first time the country has had more than 2,000 cases in a single day in nearly a month.

214 deaths were also recorded in the recent 24 hours, according to the data. It’s unclear whether the number of deaths was altered once the backlog data was included. The weekly positivity rate is.32 percent, and the daily positivity rate is.83 percent. On Sunday, the government recorded 1,150 new coronavirus cases and four deaths.

After the third wave in January put the daily total above the 3-lakh mark, Covid limits were loosened across the country in the previous few weeks as a modest drop in infections was noted. Days after the mask rule was repealed and in-person courses were fully restored in the city’s schools after a nearly two-year hiatus, a disturbing increase was noticed in Delhi once again.

The WHO has issued an alert regarding a highly transmissible XE strain, with two cases reported by government officials in Mumbai and Gujarat.

Experts, on the other hand, have warned against lowering defences because some European countries, including Germany, France, and Italy, as well as China, are fighting a new rise.
