The basic survival instinct directs a woman in the US to fatally shot a man who came to attempt a mass shooting at a birthday party in West Virginia.
A US woman shot a man brutally after he opened fire on a crowd of people with his semi-automatic rifle in Charleston, West Virginia.
The incident took place in Charleston, West Virginia, US, when a gunman from his vehicle opened fire at the crowds while celebrating a birthday graduation party outside the apartment complex in the city. Witnesses later told police that he had driven by the area earlier on Wednesday evening when he was warned to slow down because children were playing. Later he returned with armed an AR-15-type rifle and opened fire from his vehicle. That’s when a woman fired him back multiple times and he was dead at the scene.
Guman was identified as Dennis Butler, a 37-year-old with an extensive criminal history, who was killed after he targeted a group of around 40 people attending a birthday party.
Police spokesman Tony Hazelett said the woman’s timely response to the action has saved lives and may have prevented a mass shooting.
“She’s just a member of the community who was carrying her weapon lawfully,” he said. “And instead of running from the threat she engaged with the threat and saved several lives” and without any law enforcement in the background at the spot.
The unidentified woman co-operative with the investigators and remained at the scene after the shooting, and no charges will be filed against her, police added.
