Assam Petroleum Mazdoor Union stops supply of LPG, gasoline and diesel to Meghalaya

The Assam Mazdoor Union has restricted the supply of LPG,Petroleum, Diesel to the three districts of Meghalaya, Ri-bhoi, Jaintia Hills and Khasi Hills.

The Meghalaya Petroleum Dealers Association. Sanchet Sureka, the general secretary of the Meghalayan Petrol Pump Dealers Association, encourages the state government to get involved in the situation because it would affect consumers.
Following reports of attacks on Assam vehicles amid unrest along the interstate boundary that left six persons dead, it has halted the transportation of petrol to Meghalaya.

The Assam Petroleum Mazdoor Union (APMU) sent individual letters to each PSU oil marketing company, such as IOC, HPCL, and BPCL, informing them of the union's resolve to refrain from loading petroleum onto tankers.

The APMU stated in the letter that "Our members are afraid to go...for delivering gasoline goods" in reference to the attacks on cars with Assam licence plates in Meghalaya. In the present context, the union emphasised that the safety and security of the transporters and the goods come first.

Accordingly, "we have decided not to take any load from today onwards till and unless Government of Meghalaya assures us (of) the safety and security of T/T (tank truck) operators," the APMU stated.

A further claim made by the petroleum workers' union was that the Meghalaya government would be solely responsible for any untoward incidents.
"When there were prior incidents in Meghalaya, our drivers and handymen were attacked. Some of them suffered life-threatening wounds. For the rest of their lives, they have been disabled. We cannot take any further risks "Ramen Das, the APMU's general secretary, told PTI.
