A well-known Taliban ideologue, Sheikh Rahimullah Haqqani, was killed in a suicide bombing at his seminary in Kabul. An anti-Salafist voice, he survived many assassination bids in the past. Attack was reportedly carried out by one of his former students.

The attack news was confirmed by Bilal Karimi a deputy spokesperson of the Islamic Emirates of Afghanistan said that“It is with great sadness that the country’s great academic figure, has embraced martyrdom in brutal attack of the enemy.”
Sheikh Rahimullah Haqqani was once affiliated as a member of the Taliban military commission in Nangarhar province. He was imprisoned by the US military forces in Afghanistan at the Bagram jail for many years. He lived in Pakistan from 2011 to 2021.
