Amid Apple’s push to return to the office, employees threaten to quit

Apple’s return-to-office policy is far stricter than the policies of other large technology companies, and some employees plan to leave in protest.

Meta, Google, and Amazon let some employees work remotely forever. However, Apple’s CEO Tim Cook requires all staff to return to the office at least one day per week beginning April 11. By May 2, the mandate will expand to three days per week. By May 23, it will increase to two days per week.

However, Apple’s personnel policy differs significantly from that of several of its tech industry competitors. Some staff can work from home indefinitely at companies like Meta and Google.

That could explain some of Apple employees’ outrage about the company’s return-to-work policy so far. “I don’t give a single f**k about ever going back to work here,” one disgruntled employee recently claimed on the corporate evaluation app Blind.

Another says “I’m going to go in and say hello to everyone because I haven’t seen them since I started, and then I’m going to mail in my resignation when I get home. I already know I won’t be able to handle the 8-hour commute.”

Despite the fact that the company’s culture prioritises in-person cooperation and that the creation of new hardware products is best handled by on-site staff, Apple was one of the first corporations to tell its employees to work from home in March 2020.
