When a speeding carrier truck collided head-on with a tanker in a region under the Banthra police station boundaries near Lucknow in the early hours of Saturday, six people were murdered, including four young boys aged 13 to 15 years. Six others were badly injured.
The victims were daily wage workers who were on their way to Lucknow to look for jobs.
According to Inspector in-charge of Banthra police station, Ajay Pratap Singh, the accident occurred near Latif Nagar at around 2.30 a.m., when the tanker driver fell asleep and rammed into another truck travelling from the opposite direction. Shailendra Kumar, 35, Purshottam, 23, Ram Aadhar, 15, Sambhar, 13, Jai Karan, 13, and Rahul, 13 had been identified as the deceased, according to him. He went on to say that they were all Atrauli residents.
Santosh, Kuldeep, Ramendra, Jitendra, Vivek, and Shameen were among those injured, according to him. They are being treated at the King George Medical University’s trauma center in Lucknow.
According to the authorities, the driver of the tanker fled the scene of the accident, leaving the vehicle stranded. The vehicle has been seized, and the driver is being sought. At the Banthra police station, a case has been filed under Indian Penal Code sections 279 for causing injuries due to careless driving and section 304-A for causing death owing to negligent driving.
