The remains of a 30-year-old man who died in Greece in January under strange circumstances has arrived in his native village in Haryana’s Karnal.
Vikram Singh, according to his family, left for Greece on August 17, 2021. For a few days, he was in communication with his family, but after that, he couldn’t be reached.
The family subsequently filed a police report accusing Vikram’s sister, travel agency Narwair Singh, and others of plotting to extort money under the guise of sending him abroad.
The police had filed a FIR against the accused based on a complaint from Harmeet Kaur, the deceased’s mother, under sections 120B (criminal conspiracy), 409 (criminal breach of trust), 420 (cheating), and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
When the family learned that Vikram had died in Greece, they demanded that section 302 (murder) be added to the FIR. Four people have already been detained by the police, including Nirwair and Vikram’s sister.
Ganga Ram Punia, the superintendent of police in Karnal, said the issue had been taken up with the Union minister of external affairs, and that his body had been returned following DNA testing.
