In a tragic accident, a train locomotive rammed into a car at an unmanned level crossing near Purangudam Bikhoyachuk of Assam on Sunday, killing at least three members of the same family. Three of them, who were travelling from Guwahati to Silghat at the time of the tragedy, died on the spot. According to accounts, the driver of the car with the licence plate AS02-N-4402 was not aware of the locomotive of the approaching train.
The deceased were identified as Sunny Kalita, the mother, Nilima Devi, and the father, Chandra Kumar Kalita (son).
The ensuing accident resulted in the immediate death of each member. Police arrived at the scene and recovered the victims’ bodies. The post-mortem on the bodies has been ordered.
