In the early hours of August 9, a huge clash occurred between Assam Rifles soldiers and militants from the United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) and National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN) at Pangsau Pass near the Indo-Myanmar border in Arunachal Pradesh’s Changlang district. According to reports, militant groups raided three Assam Rifles camps, and the cross-firing incident, which occurred just days before the Independence Day celebration, injured one naib subedar.
Assam Rifles recently conducted significant operations against insurgent organisations in Arunachal Pradesh’s Tirap, Longding, and Changlang regions, capturing numerous NSCN cadres. Notably, the Pangsau Pass area is one of the most remote areas in Arunachal Pradesh, sharing borders with Myanmar. The majority of the Northeast’s insurgent groups have established camps in Myanmar’s jungles, and their militants slip into Arunachal Pradesh via jungle paths.
