The International Boxing Association (IBA) announced on May 25 that Lovlina Borgohain of Assam, an Indian boxer and Tokyo Olympics bronze medalist, received the most votes during the election held at the 2022 Women’s World Championships and was thus elected as the chair and a voting member of the IBA’s Athletes’ Committee’s Board of Directors.
“I feel honoured to have been elected as the chair of the IBA’s Athlete’s Committee; I expected to become a member, but never imagined that I would also become the chair of the committee; this will assist me in promoting Indian boxing, particularly women boxing, to other boxers around the world,” Lovlina said.
In addition to Lovlina, Indian boxer Shiva Thapa was voted to the IBA Athletes Committee following voting held during the 2021 IBA Men’s World Championships.
The two have acknowledged that they have accepted their duties and that they are looking forward to representing India and other boxers at the Board of Directors’ meeting.
Both boxers are part of the Sports Authority of India’s (SAI) Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS).
