Assam has the third-highest murder rate nationwide; NCRB Report

According to data made public by the National Crime Record Bureau, Assam recorded 1,269 murder cases in 2021, or 3.4%. (NCRB). With respect to the murder rate, this positions the state third in the nation.

With a murder rate of 4.1%, Jharkhand leads all states, while Haryana comes in second with 3.8%. The NCRB estimates that in 2021, the average annual murder rate was 2.2%.

The Assam police recorded 1,192 murder cases overall in 2021. The figures show that there were unknown motives in 536 of the state's murder cases, which was the greatest amount ever.

During this time, a total of 311 murders, 227 conflicts, and 105 property or land disputes were all the result of "personal revenge or hostility." Additionally, nine dowry murders were reported in the state last year.
