Indian origin Rishi Sunak leads UK PM race as Boris Johnson flies back to London

With former premier Boris Johnson anticipated to enter the contest, the competition for the position of British prime minister is heating up. Indian-born Rishi Sunak, who lost to Liz Truss, may shortly declare his candidacy for the position.

Sky News said that Boris Johnson, who has been on vacation in the Dominican Republic, was seen traveling back to London after promising an ally that he will fight for the position once more. Along with his wife and kids, Boris Johnson was spotted traveling back in economy.

Indian-origin Rishi Sunak in the most recent contest for the leadership of the Conservative party, had an early lead. At least 100 Conservative MPs have pledged their support to former chancellor Rishi Sunak. As the party has set a threshold of 100 MPs for candidates to get on the ballot paper, only a maximum of three Tory MPs will be permitted to run.

The only contender for the Tory leadership who has so far made an official entry is Penny Mordaunt. According to an Opinium study, UK citizens would prefer Rishi Sunak and Penny Mordaunt to be the next prime minister over Boris Johnson.
