The victim's mother, Sarita Sharma, said that her son was being bullied by the senior students. "He told me they haven't let him sleep at night for four months. Seniors must be fed at night. He used to remind us that they needed to wash their dirty utensils, but we would correct him by saying that this was also a lesson in life. He used to request a transfer to a private hostel. However, we are unable to simultaneously teach and keep him in a private hostel. We lack the capacity. I never imagined that my son would experience this "Reporters were informed by the victim's mother.
Himanta Biswa Sarma, the chief minister of Assam, has meanwhile urged students to reject ragging in the wake of a terrible event at Dibrugarh University.
