A day after taking the oath with his new deputy Tejashwi Yadav, Nitish Kumar enlarged his cabinet in Bihar on Tuesday by swearing in 31 new ministers.
There are 16 RJD members among the recently sworn-in ministers. In the new cabinet, 11 ministers are from Kumar’s JD(U), while two are from the Congress.
On Tuesday, Tej Pratap Yadav, Lalu Yadav’s older son and Tejashwi Yadav’s brother, was also sworn in.
The Janata Dal (United), which will keep 11, and the RJD are both expected to receive roughly 16 ministerial positions each.
Two Congress, one representative of Jitin Ram Manjhi’s Hindustani Awam Morcha, and the sole Independent MLA, Sumit Kumar Singh, will also take the oath of office, according to sources.
Nitish Kumar abruptly left the BJP-led government coalition last week. As disagreements with the BJP reached their zenith, he rejoined the Mahagathbandhan, which he had quit in 2017.
There are 43 seats altogether for the JD(U) in the 243-member assembly. Meanwhile, the RJD has almost twice as many MLAs.
