BJP suspended Raja Singh, Telangana MLA who was arrested for insulting prophet

BJP MLA T Raja Singh of Telangana was arrested today after protests in Hyderabad last night demanded he be dealt with for allegedly derogatory comments towards Prophet Muhammad.

According to police, a case was filed against Mr. Singh under several sections of the Indian Penal Code, including those relating to criminal intimidation, promoting animosity between groups based on religion, intentional and malicious acts, and outraging religious sentiments of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs. Shortly after Mr. Singh’s detention, the BJP suspended him.


Several reports claim that on Monday night, protests erupted in front of the office of city Police Commissioner CV Anand and in other locations throughout Hyderabad. Numerous members of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) and Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation corporators arrived at the police stations where protests were being held and demanded harsh punishment for T Raja Singh.
