Bomb scare in Shillong turned out to be a spoof; Meghalaya
Residents of Jingkieng Nongthymmai were alarmed on Sunday morning after a packet was discovered near the toilet of Nongthymmai Sports and Cultural Club’s indoor stadium with a warning stating that there was a bomb inside and that it should not be touched. It was later discovered to be a fraud.
The caretaker discovered the packet and informed the Club’s secretary. The police were notified right away.
A bomb squad was dispatched to the scene, and within the packet was discovered an old phone and a lighter. Miscreants were attempting to generate panic among the population, police stated, adding that they would investigate the event.
Police, on the other hand, are not taking any chances and are attempting to apprehend those responsible for the hoax. It should be noted that on January 30, an IED detonated in Khyndailad (Police Bazar) in Shillong, causing fear among the locals.
