Ayan Mukerji envisaged  “Brahmastra” in a way that would push the boundaries of Indian film.

Ayan Mukerji, director of  “Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva,” was envisioned as pushing the boundaries of Indian cinema. The concept of Brahmastra was drilled into my head before I even realised it, mentioned  Mukerji.  I was always fascinated by the tales of Indian history and mythology that I heard as a child. A novel with a strong foundation in Indian spiritual tradition but with contemporary twists and turns was what he set out to write, said the filmmaker.

It is the first of its type to imagine a cosmic world that has been accurately scaled using technology and visual effects. The brilliant teams at Prime Focus Group, who provided 3D conversion on critically and technically acclaimed films like Avatar and Gravity, were enlisted by the producers of Brahmastra. The responsibility of cloning and mastering the digital assets for standard and IMAX 3D displays was also given to Prime Focus personnel.

In order to smoothly connect the fantasy realm with the actual world, the PF group also performed the film’s colour grading skills. Prakash Kurup, the other co-founder of PF, oversaw the editing of Brahmastra. State-of-the-art sound stages and on-set camera equipment were also used to support Brahmastra. The grandiose sound effects and scores for Brahmastra were created by Jam8, a music and sound design studio run by Pritam in collaboration with Prime Focus. The world-renowned VFX firms DNEG and ReDefine, both of which have a 25-year track record in media integrated solutions, worked with the film’s creators to create the amazing visual effects for Brahmastra.
