A wonderful start at the Commonwealth Games in England’s Birmingham, 2022, Saikhom Mirabai Chanu an Indian weightlifter has made India proud again by ending our wait of gold for India and scripting the history by winning gold medal in weightlifting with a combined lift of 197kg and setting a new record in CWG. She is adamant, as she kept going and ended up lifting a total of 201kg heft.
Our Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi also tweets and congratulates Mirabai Chanu for her third successive medal at the Commonwealth Games, as she finished with silver at Glasgow in 2014 and won gold at Gold Coast in 2018 and now with a GOLD at CWG 2022 breaking the records along with setting a new record in weightlifting..

Mirabai Chanu was born on August 8, 1994 in Nongpok Kakching village of Imphal East district in Manipur, she is the youngest of five siblings. She has won the World Championships and multiple medals at the Commonwealth Games. She was awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India for her contributions to the sport. The family members and neighbors of weightlifter Mirabai Chanu in her native place burst into celebrations at Nongpok Kakching, after she wins GOLD for India in the Women’s 49kg clean and jerk category at CWG 2022.
This is Mirabai Chanu’s first big result, competing with her inner quest to push all the boundaries, since her Olympics was exploited last year.
The 2022 Commonwealth Games, officially known as the XXII Commonwealth Games and commonly known as Birmingham 2022, is an international multi-sport event for members of the Commonwealth that is taking place in Birmingham, England which started from last month’s 28th July and will end on 8th of August 2022.
