Commonwealth Games 2022: Weightlifter Bindyarani Devi from Manipur Clinches Silver
Bindyarani Devi’s silver has successfully capped off the day for Indian Weightlifters along with Mirabai Chanu, Sanket Sagar and Gururaj Poojary by winning records in the form of medals Commonwealth Games 2022.
Bidyarani banked on her clean and jerk expertise for a guaranteed medal, listing 105 as the first weight and smashing it. Her second attempt of 114 kg proved to be unsuccessful after both elbows were bent during the jerk. Her outstanding successful third attempt of 116 kg guaranteed a silver, as she managed a total of 202 kg. Her last lift smashed the previous Clean and Jerk Games Record and converted a bronze to silver.
The Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also congratulated Bindyarani Devi for winning a Silver medal at CWG at England’s Birmingham. He said that her accomplishment has made every Indian very happy and wished her for future endeavours.
Bindyarani belongs from Imphal, Manipur and she is just 22 years old. She started weightlifting in year 2013, while staying in her hometown at Manipur only. After the continuous hard work and efforts of 3 long years at the age of 16, she got selected in 2016 for NCOE Imphal, for further training. After getting trained from the year 2016 to 2018 from Imphal, she got onboarded in Indian National Camp in Patiala the very next which was 2019. And since then she has been winning hearts along with medals till today.
