Cyclone impacts: All flights are cancelled from Visakhapatnam Airport

Due to the strong cyclonic storm ‘Asani’ in the Bay of Bengal, all flights into and out of this coastal city in Andhra Pradesh were cancelled on Tuesday.

Authorities have suspended flight services to and from Visakhapatnam Airport as a precautionary measure as the cyclonic storm approaches the coast of Andhra Pradesh and is expected to bring heavy rainfall and strong gusts.

IndiGo has declared that all of its flights into and out of Visakhapatnam will be canceled. Flights between Delhi and Visakhapatnam have been canceled by AirAsia.

Mumbai-Raipur-Visakhapatnam and Delhi-Visakhapatnam flights have also been canceled by Air India.

The impact of a severe cyclonic storm on the weather in Visakhapatnam hampered aviation operations on Monday.

Due to poor weather, flights from Kurnool, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad were unable to land at Visakhapatnam Airport and were forced to return.

Flights from Hyderabad, Mumbai, Chennai, and Vijayawada were also canceled by several carriers.

As Cyclone ‘Asani’ approaches the Andhra Pradesh coast, the coastal region is witnessing strong winds and rain. Heavy rain was expected in Telangana, West Bengal, and Jharkhand, in addition to Odisha and Andhra Pradesh. Rain and thundershowers are predicted to occur in one or two locations in some Telangana districts over the next four to five days, according to the Hyderabad Meteorological Centre.
