Delhi Police manhandles Indian Youth Congress national president Srinivas BV

Following the demonstrations against Congress interim leader Sonia Gandhi’s questioning by the Enforcement Directorate here in Delhi on Tuesday afternoon, Srinivas BV, the national president of the Indian Youth Congress, was taken into custody.

Twitter users posted a video of the police dragging Srinivas into the police car and pulling his hair.
Outrage among the party workers and other leaders has been generated by the violent detention of the Congress leader.

Earlier on Tuesday, after staging a demonstration against Sonia Gandhi’s ED questioning, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and a number of other party lawmakers were held by police at Vijay Chowk in this city.

In an attempt to draw the President’s attention to the alleged abuse of central agencies by the government, the former president of the Congress and the MPs had gathered at the Vijay Chowk but were halted by the police.

Rahul Gandhi told reporters that “Modi is a king and India is a police state.”

“I have no plans to leave. The President’s home was where we wanted to go. However, the cops won’t let us, “said Gandhi.

Congress party workers in Mumbai also held a protest against the questioning of the party’s interim president the probe agency.

In addition, the Youth Congress earlier today blocked a train in Kannur, Kerala, in opposition to ED questioning. They also sang phrases like “Narendra Modi is ruthless” and “Sonia Gandhi, the leader, led bravely.” Later, cops arrested them as well.

The Congress staged a Satyagraha as the party president arrived to the ED’s Delhi office. DK Shivakumar, the head of the Karnataka Congress, spoke to the media and said, “They’re attempting to harass leaders of the opposition. We’ll resist it. We support Rahul and Sonia Gandhi. You can’t harass us anymore.”

During the second day of her questioning by the ED on Tuesday in the money laundering case involving the National Herald newspaper, Sonia Gandhi’s statement was recorded for around 2.5 hours.

She left the agency’s office in the central Delhi at around 2:00 p.m. for lunch, and she was scheduled to return at 3:30 p.m.

Gandhi had made a second appearance today before the ED for interrogation.
