Did you receive a message from SBI to update your PAN card details? ‘It’s fake,’ says govt

Many users have recently got a notification from “State Bank of India” alerting them that their YONO account has been deactivated and requesting that they update their permanent account number (PAN) card information in order to reinstate the account. The Union government clarified this on Saturday, stating that the message is fake as was to be expected.

“A #Fake mail purporting to be from SBI is requesting that clients update their PAN numbers in order to prevent their accounts from being blocked. Never reply to emails or SMS that ask you to reveal your personal or financial information, advises PIB Fact Check, the official Twitter account for the central government that debunks myths about its programmes and policies.

Citizens were urged to report such messages by contacting the helpline number 1930 or sending an email to report.phishing@sbi.co.in.

The popular text message read, “Dear Customer, Your SBI YONO Account is Closed Today. Please contact us immediately and update your PAN number at the following link.” Rajesh was listed as the “sender” as well.

The lack of any punctuation in the statement also serves as a red flag that it is a forgery.
