On Tuesday, Baichung Bhutia, a well-known national football player, was chosen to lead the Hamro Sikkim Party (HSP). At a national convention held in Gangtok, the party’s officials and members unanimously chose the 45-year-old former Indian captain as their leader, according to HSP general secretary Biraj Adhikari.

Additionally, the secretary stated that the HSP was certain that if Bhutia were to win future elections for office, it would promote an open and accessible government for the populace. According to him, “The HSP is convinced that Bhutia will now take the mantle of leading the battle to rid Sikkim of the current corrupt misrule and create a transparent and responsive administration to the people if elected to power in the future.”

According to the former Indian football player, he will serve Sikkim’s residents and serve as a representative of their goals and aspirations.

Bhutia declared, “We shall make unceasing efforts to ensure social equality and justice and provide limitless chances for every Sikkimese to realise the full potential of our state.”
