Abhishek Banerjee, a leader of the Trinamool Congress and a member of parliament, criticised the Conrad K Sangma-led Meghalayan administration for the violence along the disputed border with Assam early on Tuesday that left six people dead, including a forest guard. The Lok Sabha member expressed shock and anguish over the firing event and claimed it showed the MDA (Meghalaya Democratic Alliance) government's "ineptitude, failing its own people."
'I am shocked and very saddened by the terribly tragic firing incident at Mukroh, Meghalaya which cost the lives of five innocent villagers and a forest guard from Assam,' Banerjee wrote in a tweet.
"For how long will CM @SangmaConrad allow @himantabiswa to take Meghalaya for granted? For how long should Meghalayans live in fear and insecurity. For how long will this injustice go on?" he added.
